Ginger-Infused Honey Recipe
- 2 cups of honey
- 1 ½ inches of fresh ginger root or 2 tablespoons of dried ginger
- A double boiler/ or a heat safe bowl and a pot
- Sterilized containers with lids ( salad dressing containers or mason jars)
- Candy thermometer
Put the honey into the top of the double boiler with water at the bottom. Then, peel the ginger, slices it into very thin slices, and add it to the honey. Another option is to simply shred it.
Bring the water to boil and check the honey`s temperature with the candy thermometer. Bring it to a point of 158 degrees and keep it at this heat for ten minutes.
After ten minutes, remove the boiler from heat and let it cool off for another ten minutes. Afterwards, strain the liquid and transfer it into the sterilized containers.
If you decide to slice the ginger, keep the ginger pieces inside, as the honey-glazed ginger is great for an upset stomach.
Feel free to leave a bit of honey with the sliced ginger root, as it preserves the ginger. The longer you keep it with the ginger, the more infused the ginger becomes. Apart from that, it becomes tastier.
In case you shred the ginger, feel free to keep it as well. It can be used in many recipes, such as quick breads and stir fry.
